Using GrandCentral To Communicate With Tenants

Recently I started using a nifty service called GrandCentral.com to shield my cell phone number from tenants. In the past, I used to have to set my phone to not send my called-id information but then sometimes a problem would occur when the person receiving the call chose not to receive calls with a “private number.”

GrandCentral is a great solution because you can specify the greeting that certain callers hear and also you can choose to route certain callers to certain phones. For instance:

  • Caller is calling you at all hours of the day and night on your cell phone? Route their calls straight to voicemail.
  • You need to speak with the caller ASAP? Have GrandCentral try all your phone nubers.
  • Unknown caller? GrandCentral will get their name and call you to verify that you want to take the call.

The only issue I have with the service is that to initiate a call, I have to use the website to do so. I should mention that there is a mobile website that apparently works with a Blackberry but unfortunately I have a Nokia 6682 whose native browser doesn’t understand some of the code on GrandCentral’s mobile web site.

Alternately, you can use Opera Mini to access the GrandCentral mobile site. Opera Mini also works very well for most other mobile sites as well and is very fast.

Other than that, I think it’s a great service. At the time of this writing, it’s a free service (thanks Google) because it’s still in beta , for now anyway.
