So, Landlord-Success.com is five years-old today. I would like to say thanks to all the readers of this blog, even the disgruntled ones. You know, the ones who feel the need to post ranting comments with bad spelling and atrocious grammar? Oh that’s right. I don’t publish those comments as I like to maintain some semblance of a good user experience here.

I would also like to thank the mortgage companies who, because of their bad behavior and mistreatment of their clients, make for oodles of content and occasionally a firestorm of comments. I swear, you couldn’t manufacture worse stories and by the way, the mortgage companies standard response is, “Well, you signed a contract…” Those responses DO get published here. They’ve threatened us, sent “cease and desist” emails to us and yet…….we’re 5 years-old today!

We intend to be around for at least 5 more years so please, keep reading. As long as mortgage companies and tenants misbehave, you’ll see it here. You should also see stories about good behavior too but the bad behavior is more fun to read because chances are we’ve all experienced it.

Well, in order to accommodate readers who would rather read Landlord-Success.com posts on their cell phones, the crack web team here has made it so the site will detect that you are using a device with a small screen and format it accordingly. This should make consuming the super-informative and wonderfully entertaining posts at Landlord-Success.com MUCH easier to read than before. It even works with older Nokia phones which is sweet because I have one. Yes I’m waiting for AT&T to acquire T-Mobile so I can switch to Verizon and finally get an iPhone but that’s a whole different story.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the readers and more importantly the people who leave comments. They are what make this blog a vibrant and interesting community. I try to create readable content but the real experiences come from the readers who leave comments.

Landlord-Success.com Interview

On the other hand, I’ve met (online only but in-person hopefully soon) some really cool people. There’s Clifford who is a web entrepreneur and recovering software engineer like me, Jessica who is THE model for any Realtor or property manager thinking about joining the 21st century and a few other landlords who are in the same boat as me.

All-in-all, it’s been a fun ride which shows no sign of letting up any time soon. While we wait for the economy to dig itself out of the enormous hole it’s in, we commiserate, console and cheer each other on enabling each of us to get where we’re heading.

The company I used for this is called Liquid Web and I have to say that I’m pretty impressed so far. Their support is great and their staff must have an unbelievable amount of patience for seemingly stupid questions.

I mean, I wouldn’t consider myself a novice computer user by any stretch but the administration method I was using before consisted of editing all configuration files by hand and/or writing shell scripts to handle routine tasks.

The new server environment is entirely menu-driven and super easy to use. Hopefully now I’ll have more time to work on posting more. Thanks for your patience! Stay tuned!

New Web Server

you’re not supposed to make posts like this but here goes anyway. Sorry for not posting lately but… I’ve just got a few unrelated things to relate today and they’re all so small that I thought one post should do it:

First, I recently moved Landlord-Success.com to a new web host due to the S-C-A-R-Y weather we’ve been having here (read more in the next item.) I had been hosting it out of my own little data center here in the house but no more. So, if anyone sees anything that doesn’t work or looks weird, please feel free to let me know. Much thanks.

Second, here’s a lovely quote from the National Weather Service describing Tuesday this past week:

Whaaaaat!?? Historic and Hazardous? From a tropical storm? We did after all, get 25 inches of rain yesterday in a 24-hour period due to tropical storm Fay. It sat over Melbourne and the surrounding areas churning for like, 2-days straight. Thankfully none of the properties were flooded.

And Last, I recently read a post from Trisha Allen over at “Building An Empire” saying that she’s going to be discontinuing her blog. She says that she’s changing her focus so she can get her life back. I would like to say that I COMPLETELY understand where she’s coming from.

There are times when I want to say, “Screw it!” and give the properties back to the bank and then there are other times when I want to sue the tenants out of existence because they’re idiots and will never get anywhere in the world with the way they behave.

Neither of the above are healthy feelings to have but, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger right? I like strength and experience and wisdom so for now, I’m going to stick with it and lucky you, get to read about it. Thanks for reading!
