Dutch Boy Paints new “Refresh” product

posted in Property Management |

So I recently became aware of a new product by Dutch Boy Paints called Refresh. Although I have not used this product myself yet, I certainly would like to try it the next time it becomes necessary to perform a “trash out” in a previous tenant’s unit.

It never ceases to amaze me that tenants will check the box “No” on the rental application that asks (in plain English) “Do you smoke?” And then proceed to smoke indoors, presumably with the doors and windows closed judging from the lovely brown nicotine patina adorning the walls after a year. Not to mention the accompanying odor.

Dutch Boy Paints Refresh product uses Arm & Hammer baking soda to absorb odors from the room and also claims to be a zero-VOC emitting product which, in my opinion, is an added benefit and all indoor paints should strive to this standard.

On a fun note, Dutch Boy Paints is holding a contest at the web site www.myhousestinks.com where you can submit photos of dirty rooms and win various prizes.

Here are a few of my own “stinky house” pics. Enjoy!

Just wondering – we recently evicted our first rat-pack tenant and the amount of “stuff” they left filled our 1700 sq ft townehome to the gills – every room was 1/3 to 1/2 filled – the garage and bonus room were filled to the ceiling.
You look like you have had to deal with this kind of thing before.
When can we just trash it – we did the 18 day letter and they have made a couple of appts – then no-show.
Have you delt with this kind of thing much?

Wow! That IS a lot of stuff! To answer your question: Check the landlord/tenant statute in the state where the property is for the answers.

The procedure on how to deal with this kind of situation usually varies from state-to-state and you don’t want these people coming back and suing you for the “value” of their stuff even though it may be all junk.

    Good luck!
